PRODUCT KNOWLEDGE

Understand this product

Marine Gear Lube is intended to protect gears exposed to marine operating loads, including shock loading. AMSOIL also describes wear protection under its stated water-contamination test conditions.

Water tolerance is not permission to ignore a leaking seal. Inspect the drive and follow its service procedure if contamination is found.

Corrosion protection

Corrosion resistance is among the manufacturer’s stated product functions. Storage conditions, water exposure and the correct application still matter.

APPLICATION & SELECTION

Axle and gear lubrication

Check both the gear-oil grade and the performance specification required by the component. Axles, synchronized manual transmissions and other gearboxes may need different additive chemistry.

The listed grade is 75W-90. This identifies one selection requirement; it does not replace the performance specification or component application. Compare this exact grade, rather than another grade in the same family, with your manual.

Compatibility check

Verify limited-slip requirements, seal compatibility and whether a separate friction modifier is specified. Do not choose axle oil for a manual transmission solely because the viscosity numbers look similar.

MAINTENANCE NOTES

Use it as part of a complete service plan

Measure the specified fill level using the manufacturer’s procedure. Account for the axle or gearbox model and service conditions when planning changes. Inspect leaks or unusual noise rather than treating a lubricant change as a repair.
