Start with how you use the products
Choosing an AMSOIL account begins with a practical question: where will the products go? A family maintaining its own vehicles has different needs from a shop stocking shelves, a contractor servicing equipment or someone developing a sales business. The account should fit that activity before you compare fees, delivery and other benefits.
This guide explains five options: Preferred Customer, Dealer, Retail, Commercial and Installer. The descriptions below use current official AMSOIL information. The planning suggestions are independent dealer guidance. Examples illustrate how to think about a decision; they do not establish eligibility, guarantee savings or replace the program terms.
AMSOIL Preferred Customer: personal purchasing
Preferred Customer membership offers savings of up to 25%. Current US options are $20 for one year or a $10 six-month trial. Advertised benefits include shipping on qualifying orders over $100, $5 purchase rewards, a birthday coupon and qualifying complimentary renewal.
Begin with a household maintenance list. Record the vehicles, upcoming services and products you would buy anyway. Compare the actual member basket with the standard online basket, including the fee and delivery. Avoid assuming that every product receives the maximum advertised discount. A membership makes most sense when your expected purchases support its cost.
AMSOIL Dealer Account: an independent business
The Dealer program is a sales-business opportunity. AMSOIL lists a $100 USD annual fee, Dealer pricing, online tools and training, with no inventory requirement or sales quotas. Income is not guaranteed.
Consider whom you would serve, how you would reach them and how much time you can spend learning and supporting customers. Set a budget for optional advertising and business tools. Measure profit after expenses, rather than judging success by sales alone. If your only objective is buying products for yourself, compare Preferred Customer membership before choosing the business route.
AMSOIL Retail Account: selling through a store
Retail Accounts serve qualifying customer-accessible stores and outlets. They purchase for resale, and qualified accounts can receive merchandising assistance and Locator visibility. The official application prohibits online resale and resale through retail catalogs; business approval is required.
Think about the customers who already visit your store. Which applications do they bring, and which package sizes will turn over reliably? Build a manageable assortment and a method for answering fitment questions. A shelf full of products is less useful than a clear selection supported by staff who know how to confirm the right application.
AMSOIL Commercial Account: your company’s equipment
Commercial Accounts are intended for businesses consuming lubricants in their own vehicles and equipment, rather than reselling them. AMSOIL advertises no buying minimum, discounts tied to annual purchasing and technical support.
Create an equipment register before changing purchasing arrangements. Record required specifications, capacities and service schedules for each machine. Compare the complete maintenance process: product quantity, labor, storage, delivery and downtime. Any proposed drain-interval change needs application-specific support. A business account alone does not make every lubricant suitable or establish a particular maintenance saving.
AMSOIL Installer Account: lubricants installed during service
The Installer program addresses garages, quick lubes and specialty businesses installing lubricants as a service. Its advertised support includes marketing, technical help, volume discounts and conditional dispensing options. The official enrollment link currently leads to the Retail application.
Plan the connection between inventory and technician procedures. Label products, verify specifications before filling and document what each customer receives. Describe both installation work and counter sales when applying. A shared application form does not remove the operational difference between a store selling sealed containers and a shop choosing products during maintenance.
Compare the real cost of your next order
Use the same products and quantities when comparing purchasing options. Include membership or business fees where applicable, delivery charges and only the rewards you reasonably expect to use. Do not buy unnecessary stock simply to reach a threshold. Cash tied up in inventory still has a cost, even when delivery is included.
For businesses, match ordering frequency to consumption and storage. For households, plan around actual service dates. Keep current account terms alongside your comparison because benefits, exclusions and delivery rules can change. The amount on a product label tells you what the package contains; it does not tell you whether the whole purchasing arrangement fits your needs.
Account choice does not replace product fitment
After choosing a purchasing route, verify the product independently. Identify the exact vehicle or machine, engine and component. Check the required viscosity, performance specification, capacity and service conditions. Use current application guidance together with the manufacturer’s maintenance information. An account discount never makes an unsuitable product the right choice.
Keep a simple service record showing the product, quantity and date. For commercial equipment, also record hours or mileage where relevant. This makes repeat orders more consistent and helps you spot when a different unit or application needs separate guidance.
Take the next step with a clear purpose
Write a one-sentence description of your goal: maintain personal vehicles, build a sales business, stock a store, service company equipment or install products for customers. Use that statement to choose the page below. If activities overlap, explain the overlap before applying rather than guessing which program will cover everything.
Read the official terms and complete registration through AMSOIL. Business requests may need review and follow-up; submission is not the same as approval. Kyle Holdridge can help you compare the options and organize your questions. Bring your maintenance list or business description so the conversation starts with your needs and ends with a practical next step.
Prepare for a useful conversation
Before you contact a Dealer, gather a recent order, your expected next purchase and any questions about your intended activity. A store owner might bring a proposed shelf list; a fleet operator might bring an equipment register; a prospective Dealer might bring a customer-development budget. These details turn a general conversation into a useful comparison. Keep a copy of the terms you review and the date you reviewed them. If your plans later change, revisit the account choice instead of assuming the original arrangement still matches what you do. A good decision should remain understandable after the first order arrives.
